Halasana aka The Plow 😝 keeping the spine flexible is the key to maintaining a youthful body. The Plow, an extreme forward bending exercise, promotes both Strength & flexibility in all the regions of the back & neck. This position is excellent to relieve tension in the neck that also lead to tension headaches. This pose stimulates the spinal nerves and brings increased blood supply to the region, nourishing many of our essential internal organs. Improves blood flow circulation in general. Releases tension from the cervical (upper back) and shoulder regions. Massages the internal organs, indigestion & constipation are relieved and with practice can eventually be eliminated completely.
Some of the mental benefits of this Yoga pose is that it relieves insomnia and restless sleep. Enhances physical and mental relaxation. Helps one to develop mental poise and inner balance.
Pranic benefits : Brings a greater concentration of prana to the neck, the cervical (upper back) region & the throat. Stimulates the stomach, spleen, small intestine, heart, liver, gallbladder, and kidney Nadis (all acupuncture meridians.)
In this position the lumbar region is stretched circulation is increased in the thoracic region and stress is released from the cervical region. Major benefit ~ all regions of the spine and back muscles are stretched but the Plow benefits the muscles of the upper back and the neck particularly since this position releases a lot of stress from these areas.
